The Village of La Grange will not support two marathon races in the Village during the Thanksgiving holiday.  Consequently, next week the Club will vote on whether we should combine our race with that of the Runner's Edge store.

Program on Burma-Ken Grunke

Today's presentation was on Burma, now known as Myanmar, based on Ken Grunke's Chirstmas trip to that country to celebrate his brother's wedding.  The county is located between India and Thailand and has 53 million people.  It was formally under British rule until 1886.  It was incorporated in to India in 1937, and is now ruled by a military junta.  There are no banks, ATMs or use of credit cards or most foreign currencies.  The educational system is poor, healthcare is poor and the gross domestic output is mostly argricultural (rice, Teak, curry and opium).  There is much interest in tourism as a means of financial support.  Ken was kind enough to share some of the local arts and crafts in addition to many other interesting photos of this country.

Pillars serves thousands of meals at Constance Morris house in an effort to ease suffering in the area.  One of Pillars' goals is to remove the stigma of receiving treatment for mental health issues.  The group throws theame-based parties (20 parties in 30 days) to raise funds for its good work.  The Club was invited to host such a party for the Group.
